Town Administrator Michael Mullen, together with the Dighton Board of Selectmen and Council on Aging Board of Directors, is pleased to welcome Anabela ‘Bela’ Powell as the Town of Dighton’s new Executive Director of the Dighton Council on Aging.

Powell will begin her new role effective April 14, and will be responsible for planning, organizing and directing all Council on Aging (COA) initiatives and programs.

Prior to being appointed as the director of the COA, Powell served as the administrative assistant to the executive director for the past 14 years. In this role, Powell assisted with numerous administrative duties including supporting the Prime Time Supportive Day Program, leading department programming and the preparation of the COA’s ‘Strawberry Vine’ monthly newsletter, providing referrals to proper agencies and programs when necessary, preparing grant applications and more.

During her 15-year career within the Town of Dighton, Powell has been heavily involved in the community having served on numerous commissions and boards. Currently, she serves on the Dighton Housing Authority Board of Commissioners, an elected position she’s held since 2019. She’s also worked as an election worker for the town and a temporary administrative assistant for the Dighton Housing Authority.

Powell also previously worked at Dighton Nursing Center as the Activity Director.

“We are so excited that Bela will be bringing her skills and expertise to a new level serving Dighton seniors and residents,” Town Administrator Mullen said. “Bela knows our community, she loves Dighton, and she cares about our fellow residents. We look forward to all that she’ll be able to accomplish in this new role to grow and expand COA programming to even more Dighton residents.”
