Program Offers Fixed Electricity Rates

Town Administrator Michael Mullen, together with the Dighton Board of Selectmen, is pleased to announce that Dighton residents and businesses enrolled in Dighton’s Community Electricity Aggregation (CEA) program will not be impacted by National Grid’s recently announced rate hike.

The Dighton CEA is an electricity supply program organized by the Town of Dighton to provide residents and businesses with town-vetted options for electricity supply. Currently, the Town of Dighton is under contract with electricity supplier Constellation.

As part of this program and contract with Constellation, Dighton offers electricity program rates that are fixed and will not change through December 2023.

While under contract with Constellation, the delivery of electricity and billing for use is still completed through National Grid so customers continue to receive one bill from the utility. Residents should note that Dighton’s CEA program is limited to Dighton National Grid customers and does not impact Taunton Municipal Lighting Plant (TMLP) ratepayers/customers.

Last week, National Grid announced that as of Nov. 1, the default Residential Basic Service Fixed supply rate will be $0.33891/kWh, which is significantly higher than the standard Dighton supply rate of $0.10470 cents/kWh.

While National Grid’s rates change twice a year for residential and small business customers on May 1 and Nov.1, the Dighton CEA program rates are fixed for the duration of the municipality’s contract, which expires in December 2023.

“Thanks to the longstanding leadership of Dighton town officials, Dighton’s National Grid customers have benefited from our Community Electricity Aggregation for many years,” said Town Administrator Michael Mullen. “This year the value of the program will be recognized in locked-in electricity rates for many Dighton residents. This will prevent further cost increases in utility bills as we plan for the winter months.”

Dighton residents and businesses can confirm that they are enrolled in the Dighton Community Electricity Aggregation program by looking at the Supply Services Section of a recent National Grid electric bill. If it says “Supplier: Constellation NewEnergy (Dighton Agg)”, then that account is enrolled. If it says something else such as Basic Service Fixed or names a supplier other than Constellation then that account is not enrolled.

Dighton Community Electricity Aggregation offers contract rate options:

  • Standard — $0.10470/kWh
  • 50% Green — $0.12244/kWh
  • 100% Green — $0.14019/kWh

Availability to Customers Seeking to Join the Program:

  • The contract rates above are available to any Residential and Small Business customer that has never participated in the program.
  • The following customers may be offered a market rate, determined by the supplier:
    • Residential and Small Businesses customers that have previously opted out of the program and are seeking to re-join
    • Any Large Business customers

Residents and businesses can enroll in Dighton Community Electricity Aggregation or switch rate options at any time online at MassCEA.com/Dighton or by calling 833-461-0813. It can take one or two billing cycles for the supplier change to appear on the National Grid bill.

Please note that because National Grid Basic Service rates are not known past April 2023 for Residential and Small Business customers or October 2022 for Large Business customers, future savings for the Dighton Community Electricity Aggregation cannot be guaranteed.
