Town Administrator Michael Mullen, together with Town Clerk Mark Pacheco and Treasurer/Collector Mary Hathaway, is pleased to report that the Town of Dighton has recently installed two new drop boxes and signage at the Dighton Town Hall for residents.

The two new drop boxes have been installed behind Dighton Town Hall, 979 Somerset Ave. to replace a previously existing box that was at the front of the parking lot. Signage has been installed in the old drop box’s place directing residents to the new drop boxes.

The two new drop boxes are delineated as a Town Clerk box and a Treasurer/Collector box to streamline documents to the respective offices. Residents are asked to separate their documents for each office accordingly.

“The configuration of our new Town Hall drop boxes aims to improve Dighton’s accessibility to residents in delivering payments, ballots, license applications and other information to relevant town departments,” said Town Administrator Mullen. “I thank Clerk Mark Pacheco and Treasurer Mary Hathaway for bringing this project to fruition.”

Residents can drop off ballots, election forms, census forms and dog licensing documents in the Town Clerk drop box. Other documents needed to conduct business with the Town Clerk will also be accepted in the box.

“The voters of Dighton are entitled to have confidence in the voting process. These boxes are essential for election security. With the increase in absentee and vote-by-mail ballots cast in recent elections and likely moving forward, we needed a secure, dedicated box,” Town Clerk Pacheco said. “I am pleased to say the new addition of these boxes accomplished just that. I would like to give a special thanks to Pamela Tenglin, Assistant Town Clerk for initially brainstorming this idea.”

In the Treasurer/Collector drop box residents can drop off tax and bill payments. Residents should note that only checks can be deposited in the Treasurer/Collector drop box. Cash payments will not be accepted through the drop box.

“The placement of the two new boxes that are now located behind the Town Hall for the Treasurer/Collector and the Town Clerk are working out great,” Treasurer/Collector Mary Hathaway said. “Residents really have been utilizing both of these boxes and I am sure they find it so convenient to just drive out back. I appreciate the efforts of the Town Clerk’s office in leading efforts to get these new boxes for our residents.”

The boxes are checked and emptied on a daily basis.

Anyone with any questions about what will and will not be accepted in the drops boxes is encouraged to call the Town Clerk’s Office at 508-669-5411 (Option 2) or Treasurer/Collectors Office at 508-669-5411.
