Chief Robert MacDonald is pleased to officially welcome three new officers to the Dighton Police Department.
“We are excited to be officially welcoming Officers Bennett, Hathaway and Horton to our ranks at Dighton Police and the greater Dighton community,” Chief MacDonald said. “They all have expressed a passion for community-based policing and interacting closely with the community they serve which will make them a great fit for our department. We are confident that with their unique backgrounds, experiences and skills they will all be great additions to our team.”
Officer Alyssa Bennett
Officer Bennett was hired as a full-time officer with Dighton Police at the beginning of August.
Officer Bennett previously served with the Plymouth Police Department. She graduated from the Cape Cod Municipal Police Academy last July and has most recently completed training to become a School Resource Officer. Officer Bennett holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and psychology from Bridgewater State University.
“My work as a police officer is rooted in community. I believe our work goes deeper than the badge,” Officer Bennett said. “For me, policing is getting to know and understand the people we commit to serve and protect. The relationships I develop with members of the community bring me great joy and they are the reason I do this job.”
Officer Stephen Hathaway
Officer Hathaway was hired as a full-time officer with Dighton Police at the end of May. He is assigned as the department’s new School Resource Officer and will begin this position at the beginning of the school year.
Officer Hathaway started his policing career in 2011 as a reserve officer with the Dighton Police Department. For the past five years, Officer Hathaway has served the Cape Cod community as a full-time officer with the Brewster Police Department.
He is a Plymouth Police Academy 63rd Recruit Officer Class graduate.
Officer Julia Horton
Officer Horton was hired as a part-time officer with Dighton Police in July and officially started work on July 12.
She previously worked as a dispatcher at Stonehill College in Easton and graduated from the Plymouth Police Academy as a member of Class 20-02 last September.
Officers Bennett, Hathaway and Horton were all sworn in at Dighton Board of Selectmen meetings. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, an official swearing-in ceremony has been postponed until further notice.
Officers Bennett and Horton are currently undergoing field training with Officers Steven Ferreira and Gregory Steele as part of their introduction to Dighton Police.
