Town Administrator Michael Mullen, together with the Dighton Board of Selectmen and Finance Committee, would like to share information about warrant articles to be considered at the Town of Dighton’s upcoming Special Town Meeting next month.

The Town of Dighton’s Special Town Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 1, beginning at 7 p.m. at the Dighton Middle School Cafetorium, 1250R Somerset Ave.

At the Special Town Meeting, residents will consider various proposals, which include efforts to help reduce the Fiscal Year 2023 tax rate, fund planned capital investments, and review proposed updates to the Town’s solar bylaw, and proposed roadway acceptances, among other housekeeping priorities.

This year, due to a one-time, COVID-19-related Fiscal Year 2021 turnback of $1.2 million in Dighton-Rehoboth Regional School District Excess & Deficiency (E&D) funding to the Town of Dighton, the Town realized higher-than-usual free cash certification. As a result, the Board of Selectmen and Finance Committee are jointly recommending that Article 3 of the Special Town Meeting Warrant be funded in the amount of nearly $600,000 which would help to reduce the Fiscal Year 2023 tax rate.

Town officials are also recommending the approval of Articles 16 and 17 which are respective transfers of $650,000 and $425,000 into the Town’s Capital Stabilization and Stabilization Funds.

Additional articles to be considered from the 24-article Special Town Meeting Warrant will be numerous planned capital investments, including:

  • Upgrades to the Town Hall’s railing and stairway infrastructure
  • Dighton Fire Department Feasibility Study for Station 1
  • Final Design, Engineering and Permitting Costs for the Pleasant Street at Muddy Cove Bridge
  • Investments in the Police Department and Highway Department Vehicle fleets
