Town Administrator Michael Mullen and Veteran’s Services Officer Raymond Hague are pleased to invite community members to attend Dighton’s upcoming Memorial Day Ceremony.

WHEN:

Monday, May 30 beginning at 10 a.m.

WHERE:

Veterans Memorial Park, 979 Somerset Ave.

WHAT:

Community members are invited to attend the town’s annual Memorial Day Ceremony in observance of the longstanding tradition of honoring those who died while in military service to this country.

Memorial Day, which was first known as Decoration Day, started in 1868 as a day of remembrance during which people decorated the graves of fallen Civil War soldiers and sailors. The day became an official federal holiday in 1971.

As part of Dighton’s Memorial Day Ceremony, remarks will be given by Bristol County Sheriff Thomas Hodgson and Dighton dignitaries including the Dighton Board of Selectmen.

The program will also include the placing of the wreath of thanks and a salute. The National Anthem and God Bless America will be sung by Rachel Rapoza, followed by the release of doves.

Light refreshments will be provided immediately following the ceremony.
