Chief Robert MacDonald is pleased to announce that the Dighton Police Department received $20,000 in federal grant funds allocated by the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security’s Office of Grants and Research (OGR).
The $20,000 grant funds were made available by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and allocated by the OGR. This funding will be used to support Dighton’s Municipal Road Safety program, including the use of speed and traffic counters.
Since receiving the grant, Dighton Police have conducted an impaired driving campaign during the month of December amid peak holiday travel. The Dighton Police Department will also be conducting a distracted driving campaign this spring in an effort to ensure operators are not texting or on their phones while driving, a click-it-or-ticket campaign in May, a summer speed enforcement campaign in June and another impaired driving campaign throughout August to September,
“With the use of grant funds allocated to our department by the OGR, our department will have the ability to increase traffic enforcement which will, in turn, make our roads safer for the community,” said Chief MacDonald.
About the FFY 2022 Municipal Road Safety (MRS) Grant Program
The Office of Grants and Research announced the availability of approximately $5,000,000 in National Highway Traffic Safety Administration grant funding in Federal Fiscal Year 2022 to municipal police departments within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. This grant is being made available to help reduce roadway crashes, injuries, fatalities, and their associated economic losses in Massachusetts.
