The Town of Dighton and Dighton Board of Selectmen are pleased to recognize longtime Finance Committee Chairman Edward ‘Ed’ Swartz for years of hard work and dedicated service to the Dighton community and its residents.
After serving nearly 20 years on the Dighton Finance Committee, most as the Finance Committee Chairman, Swartz will be stepping down from the Finance Committee at the end of the fiscal year, June 30.
“Throughout his years of service, Chairman Swartz has been an instrumental member of Dighton’s town government, overseeing and addressing the fiscal needs of the community,” Town Administrator Michael Mullen said. “On behalf of the Town of Dighton, I would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Edward Swartz for his tireless efforts guiding Dighton forward.”
Chairman Swartz was honored for his service at the Dighton Board of Selectmen meeting on Wednesday, June 23. The Board of Selectmen, on behalf of the Town of Dighton, presented Chairman Swartz with a Proclamation and Certificate of Recognition.

Throughout his tenure, Chairman Swartz brought collaborative, credible leadership and fiscal discipline to the Finance Committee which allowed the Town of Dighton to consistently meet its fiscal needs during those years. The town’s strong fiscal position also improved to one that is widely recognized by residents and local and state officials under Swartz’s leadership.
Highlights of his tenure include the establishment of and significant investments in both the Town’s Stabilization and Capital Stabilization Funds; the funding of many critical capital improvements, including a new headquarters for the Dighton Police Department; and the early adoption of the Town’s Other Post-Employment Benefits (OPEB) Fund.
He also was an advocate for the restructuring and professionalization of Dighton’s town government, including the establishment of the town administrator position.
Chairman Swartz’s fiscal management abilities as chairman of the Dighton Finance Committee has also been credited with successfully mitigating the economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic from Fiscal Year 2020 to Fiscal Year 2021 and beyond.
On behalf of its residents, the Town of Dighton and Dighton Board of Selectmen wish Chairman Swartz a happy and well-deserved retirement.
