Library Director Jocelyn Tavares is pleased to announce that the Dighton Public Library will be offering two Sea Turtle Rescue Virtual Academy sessions next week and invites children ages 5-10 to attend.
The two Sea Turtle Rescue Virtual Academy sessions are part of the New England Aquarium’s Virtual Academy Program. Six south coast libraries, including Dighton, are invited to attend the event.
“We encourage our residents to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity for their kids to learn more about sea turtles and the work being done at the New England Aquarium,” Director Tavares said. “Those who love the ocean, turtles and sea life are sure to enjoy this program.”
The first session will take place on Wednesday, June 16 from 10 to 10:45 a.m. for children ages 5-7 years old, or kindergarten through second grade. Those interested in attending the first session must register online ahead of the event.
The second session will be held on Thursday, June 17 from 10 to 10:45 a.m. for children ages 8-10 years old, or third through fifth grade. Those interested in attending the second session must register online ahead of the event.

During each session, children will discover what it takes to be an ocean protector through exploring the Aquarium’s sea turtle rescue, rehabilitation and release work. With support from an Aquarium educator, children will build an understanding of how humans safeguard and study animals and habitats, and how to take action to help protect sea turtles.
Each Sea Turtle Rescue Virtual Academy session is offered free of charge to residents.
The New England Aquarium’s Virtual Academy Program is funded by the CARES Act. CARES Act funding was administered by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners to the Federal Institute of Museum and Library Services.
