DPD Hiring Full-Time and Part-Time Officers

Chief Robert MacDonald is pleased to announce that the Dighton Police Department is searching for talented candidates to register for the upcoming Police Officer Entrance Exam. 

The department is actively seeking qualified applicants who would like to serve their community as a full-time or part-time police officer. Laterals, or current full-time officers from other departments, are encouraged to apply and take the exam as well.

The exam is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 13. Registration is open until Saturday, Feb. 5, or until maximum capacity is reached. The exam fee is $90 and is non-refundable after Feb. 5. To register, click here.

Once registered, additional information will be shared regarding the testing location and COVID-19 protocols.

The Dighton Police Department offers full-time officers competitive wages with the ability to work overtime and details, educational incentives, shift differential and a robust health benefits package, as well as county retirement. Part-time officers also have the ability to work cruiser shifts and details. Additionally, all officers will work out of the Dighton Police Department’s brand new, state-of-the-art facility.

In order to be eligible for a position, all candidates must be able to meet the following basic qualifications:

  • High School Graduate/GED equivalent
  • Ability to obtain a valid Massachusetts Firearms License to Carry
  • Be at least 21 years old on date of appointment
  • Must have a valid Massachusetts driver’s license on date of appointment
  • Must pass entrance examination, oral interviews and a background investigation
  • Must pass a physical fitness test
  • Must pass a psychological examination
  • Must be a United States citizen
  • Must reside within 15 miles of Dighton, Massachusetts within one year of appointment

Candidates are expected to arrive at the test site by 8:30 a.m. on the day of the test, and are required to bring the following materials:

  • Admission Notice
  • Valid picture ID
  • Two No. 2 pencils

The multiple choice exam evaluates how candidates manage stress and responsibility as well as their emotional and interpersonal skills, work ethic, problem solving abilities and levels of comprehension in reading, writing and math.

Test results will be sent to each candidate and the Town of Dighton within 14 days of the examination via email. Applicants must obtain an overall minimum passing score of 70%. All candidates receiving a total score above 70% will receive an email containing information from the Town of Dighton on how to proceed with the application process.
