DIGHTON — Library Director Jocelyn Tavares is pleased to announce that the Dighton Public Library will be hosting the upcoming New England First Amendment Coalition (NEFAC) panel discussion.
The event will be held on Thursday, Oct. 10 from 6:30-8 p.m. at Old Town Hall, 1111 Somerset Ave. in Dighton.
A panel from the coalition will present its ongoing community conversation, “First Amendment and the Free Press.”
The panel includes:
- Edward Fitzpatrick, currently writing for the Boston Globe, covering Rhode Island. While serving as the Providence Journal’s political columnist, Fitzpatrick championed First Amendment freedoms, pressing for access to public records.
- Barbara T. Roessner, who is the former executive editor of the Hearst Connecticut Media Group, an amalgam of daily and weekly newspapers, websites and other print and digital products based in Southern Connecticut. She is a Pulitzer Prize-winning editor and has twice served as a Pulitzer juror.
- Gregory V. Sullivan is a member of NEFAC’s Board of Directors and serves as general counsel for the Union Leader Corporation. He teaches First Amendment Media Law at Suffolk University Law School in Boston and at the Nackey S. Loeb School of Communications in Manchester, N.H.
NEFAC offers discussions on journalism and the first amendment as part of its Featured Speaker Program, launched in January 2018 to help increase first amendment education in high schools, college classrooms and community centers. Since the program’s creation, NEFAC has provided more than 40 presentations throughout the region.
