DIGHTON — Chief Shawn Cronin reports that the Dighton Police Department is investigating a possible vandalism at Dighton Middle School after a sink was left on overnight.

On Friday, Jan. 20, Dighton Police were notified by officials from Dighton Middle School that they discovered multiple rooms in the school that had sustained water damage.

Upon arrival, police determined that a sink in a classroom had been left running overnight, causing water to overflow into surrounding rooms. Police believe that someone may have stuffed the sink with paper towels to prevent it from draining.

In addition to the originating room, three other rooms sustained water damage.

“We pledge to work with the Dighton-Rehoboth Regional School District, and want to assure our community that we will complete a full and thorough investigation in an effort to determine the circumstances surrounding this unfortunate incident,” Chief Cronin said. “All of us here at the Dighton Police Department value learning and want to do our part to ensure that student learning in the District is not disrupted.”

The nature of the incident, including the possibility of vandalism, is under investigation by the Dighton Police Department. Dighton Police are also working to determine the extent of the damage and the cost of repairs.

Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to call the Dighton Police Department at 508-669-6711.
