Chief Robert MacDonald and the Dighton Police Department would like to recognize the valuable role of Animal Control Officer Stacy Ferry within the Dighton community.
Animal Control Officer Stacy Ferry began her role in the Town of Dighton in September 2010. As part of her role, ACO Ferry is responsible for enforcing Dighton’s animal bylaws and the general laws of the state serving as both animal control and animal inspector.
ACO Ferry responds to complaints of animal cruelty, leash law violations, dog bites, hoarding cases, animals hit by cars, feral cats and more calls for service. She’s also in charge of kennel inspections within the town and works closely with the Board of Health and Town Clerk for resident compliance. As the animal inspector, Ferry also oversees and manages public health issues such as rabies quarantines and barn inspections.
Most importantly, ACO Ferry’s biggest responsibility is not just about enforcement but also to educate the general public about wildlife and animals.
“ACO Ferry has done a tremendous job over the past decade responding to calls and assisting our community with their animal-related needs,” Chief MacDonald said. “Despite the nature of these calls, ACO Ferry always acts in a professional and compassionate nature with the animals’ wellbeing at the forefront.”
Currently, ACO Ferry is available 24/7 to respond to calls for service and operates out of the Dighton Police Department where she assists first responders when responding to applicable calls. She also has an office located at the town’s animal shelter where community members can schedule an appointment by emailing animalcontrol@dighton-ma.gov or calling 774-644–8004.
ACO Ferry is a certified animal control officer in Massachusetts and continuously undergoes trainings and workshops required of animal control officers. Prior to becoming the town’s animal control officer, Ferry worked in the veterinary business and is a graduate of Bristol County Agricultural High School.

Rabies Clinic
ACO Ferry, alongside the Dighton Board of Health, will host an upcoming rabies clinic on Saturday, May 21 from 3-4 p.m. at the Dighton Animal Shelter, 821 Tremont St.
