Dighton Fire Chief Christopher Maguy and Berkley Fire Chief Scott Fournier are pleased to announce that Dighton and Berkley firefighters went head-to-head in a charity softball game this past weekend.

On Sunday, July 18, Dighton and Berkley Fire held their first annual charity softball game at the Karl K. Spratt Memorial Field in Dighton. The charity softball game, spearheaded by Dighton firefighter Matthew Silva and Berkley firefighter James Guilmette, raised money to be donated to the Ronald McDonald House.

Various raffle items were also donated by players from both departments and their proceeds went to charity as well. In total, Dighton and Berkley Fire raised $1,440 to be donated to the Ronald McDonald House.

“The charity softball game was an amazing opportunity for our two departments to come together for a rivalry amongst friends while raising money for a good cause,” Chief Fournier said.

Added Chief Maguy, “We would like to thank our friends and family who came out in support of our first annual softball charity game and the Ronald McDonald House. All proceeds that were raised will help the Ronald McDonald House in its mission of improving the health and well-being of children.”

At the event, food for players and their families was generously donated by Hannaford Supermarket Store Manager Shaun Eddy. Water was also donated by Joshua Sicard and Heather Knight, and ice was donated by Eastern Ice Co. of Fall River.

The friendly competition ended with Dighton Fire winning the softball game with a 39-35 score. Winners of the charity softball game received bragging rights.
