Town Administrator Mallory Aronstein and Town Clerk Sue Medeiros wish to share important information regarding early voting for the upcoming primary election.
“We encourage all of our citizens to exercise their right to vote and take advantage of the opportunity to vote on their own schedule,” Town Clerk Medeiros said. “To ensure everyone’s health and safety while voting, we will have numerous safety precautions at the polling site including a mask mandate and social distancing guidelines.”
The primary election will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 1. Residents are encouraged to utilize early voting or mail-in voting options as an alternative to voting in-person on Election Day in order to limit the number of people at the polling location as part of the ongoing effort to limit close interactions and prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Early voting in Massachusetts began on Saturday, Aug. 22 and will continue through Thursday, Aug. 27.
Early voting can be done in person at Dighton Town Hall, Lower Level, 979 Somerset Ave. during the following dates and times:
- Monday, Aug. 24 from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Tuesday, Aug. 25 from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Wednesday, Aug. 26 from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Thursday, Aug. 27 from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Those who vote early in person must do the following:
- Wear a face mask or face covering.
- Bring an ID, as voters will be required to show an ID in some cases.
- Maintain a social distance of at least 6 feet from anyone who is not from your household.
Early voting will be available for registered voters for the primary election. Registered voters do not need any excuse or reason to vote early. Regardless of whether a voter wants to take advantage of early voting, voting absentee or voting on Election Day, the first step is to make sure you are registered.

Additionally, all registered voters can vote by mail for the fall 2020 elections and are encouraged to allow for ample time for the processing of the application and for the ballot to be delivered.
Registered voters applying for an early voting ballot through the mail should mail their application to the Town Clerk’s Office, 979 Somerset Ave, or by email to smedeiros@dighton-ma.gov.

Applications and ballots that have been mailed can be tracked here. Due to the anticipated high demand of applications, voters are asked to allow at least two weeks before checking the status of their application and expect at least 10 days to receive their ballot from the date of mailing.
