Dighton Police Hiring Full-Time Officers

DIGHTON – Acting Chief George Nichols is pleased to share that the Dighton Police Department is searching for talented candidates to register for its upcoming Police Officer Entrance Exam.

The exam is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 9 and will be held at 130 Center St. Check-in starts at 12:45 p.m.

Registration is open until Friday, Sept. 8, or until maximum capacity is reached. The exam fee is $100 and is nonrefundable after Friday, Sept. 1. To register, click here.

The Dighton Police Department offers full-time officers competitive wages with the ability to work overtime and detail shifts, educational incentives, shift differential and a robust health benefits package, as well as county retirement.

In order to be eligible for a position, all candidates must be able to meet the following basic qualifications:

  • Ability to obtain a valid Massachusetts Firearms License to Carry
  • Be at least 21 years old on date of appointment
  • Possess an associate’s degree or equivalent credits when enrolled in a
    bachelor’s program, or be an active member of the military or honorably discharged
  • Pass an entrance examination
  • Pass oral interviews
  • Pass a thorough background investigation prior to employment
    •  No person, who has been convicted of a felony or any offense punishable under M.G.L. Chapter 94C (drug law violations); or has been convicted of a misdemeanor and has been confined to any jail or house of correction as punishment for said crime, M.G.L. Chapter 22 C section 14, will be considered for employment.
  • Pass a physical fitness test
  • Pass a medical examination
  • Pass a psychological examination
  • Must be a United States citizen
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Must reside within 15 miles of Dighton within one year of appointment
  • In accordance with M.G.L. Chapter 22 C section 10, no officer or student officer
    appointed or hired after January 1, 1988, shall smoke any tobacco product.

Candidates are required to bring the following materials to the test site:

  • Admission Notice
  • Valid photo ID
  • Several No. 2 pencils (no mechanical pencils)

The multiple-choice exam evaluates how candidates manage stress and responsibility as well as their emotional and interpersonal skills, work ethic, problem-solving abilities and levels of comprehension in reading, writing and math.

Test results will be sent to each candidate and the Town of Dighton within 21 days of the examination via email. Applicants must obtain an overall minimum passing score of 70%. All candidates receiving a total score above 70% will receive an email containing information from the Town of Dighton on how to proceed with the application process.
