For Kids 13-Years-Old and Younger
DIGHTON — Chief Robert MacDonald is pleased to announce that the Dighton Police Department will offer Happy Birthday Drive-Bys to celebrate children’s birthdays in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Kids’ lives have been turned upside down a bit by the coronavirus pandemic and it may be hard for them to understand why they can’t see their friends or have a birthday party,” said Chief MacDonald. “We would like to make this time as enjoyable as possible for them and give those with birthdays coming up something to look forward to. This program will allow us to show these kids that they are in our thoughts and give us an opportunity to celebrate with them from a safe distance.”
The Dighton Police Department will be offering this program for Dighton children 13-years-old or younger for the duration of the stay-home-advisory. Those interested in surprising a child through this program should reach out to the Dighton Police Department.
Residents should email rrichards@dighton-ma.gov with their name, address, time window for the drive-by and the name and age of the birthday boy or girl at least three day prior to the birthday date.
Officers will then drive by the address on the child’s birthday with their lights on and wish the child happy birthday over the public address (PA) system.
Residents should be aware that drive-by time windows may have to be postponed, rescheduled or cancelled depending on officer availability.
